I'm a Data Journalist and Graphics Reporter at NBC and a graduate of the M.S. in Data Journalism program at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. I graduated summa cum laude (highest distinction) from Indiana University with a major in Informatics, a cognate in Journalism, and two minors in Human-Centered Computing (HCI) and Interactive & Digital Media.
I strive to produce journalism stories with a focus on data-driven, interactive, and visual storytelling, and I aim to create digital content that simplifies complex information to promote intuitive user experiences.
In the past, I've been employed by The Wall Street Journal as a Graphics Intern, NBC News as a Data Journalism Intern, and Indiana University's Arbutus Yearbook and Indiana Daily Student as Editor-in-Chief and a photojournalist/videographer. I've also worked as a web developer and UX designer for IU Strategic Communications where I redesigned websites for the university like the Office of First Year Experience Programs, Hoosier Link and the "We Are IU" blog which details the IU experience for incoming freshmen through the eyes of students at Indiana University.
I'm looking to expand my portfolio while I'm on top and while I'm young.
I love what I do. I take great pride in what I do. And I can't do something halfway, three-quarters, nine-tenths. If I'm going to do something, I go all the way.
I've conducted user testing on a variety of topics with the use of Sketch, XD and InVision. My UX background assists with the creation of interactive graphics and stories.
With the use of Unity and Blender, I make virtual reality scenes and create 3D models. I believe that VR is an emerging trend that will soon be commonplace in news reporting.
Tools like D3, Illustrator, Mapbox and InDesign help me to create award-winning page designs and graphics.
I've done data reporting and analysis at the Wall Street Journal and NBC News. I've worked as a print and digital reporter for the Arbutus Yearbook and the Indiana Daily Student.

My photo and video production experience spans over a decade. I've managed a staff of photographers and was the editor of an ACP, CSPA and ICPA award-winning yearbook.
If you call failures experiments, you can put them in your resume and claim them as achievements.

A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.
Human behavior flows from three main sources: desire, emotion, and knowledge.
The accolades, just like the scrapes and bruises, fade in the end, and all you're left with is your ambition.
